Helping Tanzania

These days many from the United States have been journeying to the land of Tanzania. Whether their travel has been for the pleasure of a picture safari, to bring relief through medical or building teams or to simply visit the people of Tanzania – most come home with a strong tie to the land that they visited. The warm hospitality of the Tanzanian people, the incredible sightings of animals and landscapes and even the scent of Africa has drawn a group of people from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Washington states together. Having responded to invitations to visit the people of Tanzania in the Morogoro region we are now working together to share with our new found friends, gifts from our side of the world to encourage them in their daily lives.

When traveling in Morogoro we were surprised at the stark differences in our lives from the daily life of the people there. We take clean water, basic medical care and education for granted. For many in Tanzania the act of finding water for the day consumes most of the hours of the day. A water source may be more than a mile from home – requiring someone in the family to walk and carry the water back. That water source may be used by cattle, goats and sheep, for laundry and for drinking water. Not only does the collection of water take up the majority of the day – the lack of sanitation adds to the struggle to deal with diseases such as malaria. A source of clean water in close proximity to a village can mean the difference of living day by day or freeing the people there to begin educating their children and moving out of extreme poverty.

The country of Tanzania is among the poorest countries in our world. Small donations from others can make dramatic differences in the lives of villages throughout Tanzania. We invite you to learn about ways you can help someone move from poverty to hope for the future.
